Gardening education has a long standing tradition of collaboration. We are happy to share with you our lessons that we use in Farm to School with Nantucket Public Schools. These Farm to School lessons have been designed to meet Massachusetts state standards.

Farm to School In the Garden

Gardens and other outdoor spaces are full of fun learning opportunities for children. Here you can find a variety of activities that--with a little modification here and there--you can do with children of nearly every age. Most of the activities require no preparation and either very few supplies or supplies that you can find or make. Once you start exploring in the garden, it is easy to get creative ideas flowing!

Harvest of the Month

Harvest of the Month is a great opportunity to celebrate local abundance and experiment with new foods and recipes. The program’s goal is to encourage healthy food choices by increasing student’s exposure to seasonal foods while also supporting local farmers and building excitement about school meals. Harvest of the Month is a great opportunity to teach students about Nantucket’s unique microclimate in a tasty way.

Enrichment Clusters

Sustainable Nantucket’s Farm to School Manager has provided Compost Club in the past and, most recently, partnered with the DPW to present an Enrichment Cluster titled Reduce is the Most Important R which focused on teaching students habits and “life hacks” to use less waste in their daily lives.
